  1. You aren’t using a line booster for the mic. You can’t just plug the mic into the Zoom unless it’s a powered mic and can bring itself to line level.

    This:

    fHZKX4W.png

The mic plugs into the gold Pyle mic amp that then gets plugged into the Zoom.

Pyle doesn’t make them anymore, but you can pick up similar from Walmart.com.

There is also a tutorial for building one in the tutorial section, but I’d suggest being good at soldering etc. beforehand. I can manage the iron, but I still haven’t gotten mine to work.

Pick up one or two of those from Walmart. Then you’ll likely want a 90* mono adapter. Get 2 so the wire isn’t sticking straight out like you have it.

    Get a couple of them:

Hosa GPP-151 1/4" TS to 1/4" TS Right Angle Adaptor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000068O45/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_1F8YW0RW1DED4W1QSY48?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

After those come in, hooking up your zoom should be a breeze.

Hey guys, just got a multistomp and will figure out the rest as I go.

    Quick question however.

With the multiStomp in the Vader forums they seemed pretty specific that I needed to just use a mono cable not a stereo cable.  Can we confirm that's the case before I head to my local music shop and see what they got?

Stereo cables “can” work depending on their design etc. Sometimes they will, sometimes they won’t.

Mono cables, and 90* adapters, WILL work.

And if you can have cables bought, or made, to eliminate adapters, do it. For example, on the Zoom out, buying a 90* mono 1/4” plug on one end and a 1/8” mono plug on the other would be awesome. I still haven’t found one as searching the web for one is a pain.

But if a place makes cables, certainly look to get one of those. Less points of failure.

Finally got to do a video with my V2 setup.  I had to do it with my camera, which does not have a very good video option, cause my phone kept picking up weird echo-y things, but the sound part is pretty close to what it should be with this.

I'm about 90-95% happy with this one.  Some things to note.  Obviously, each persons voice is different, so dialing in these settings for other people is not easy!  2) Mic's matter!  I finally got my condenser with mic (that I found on the Vader's voice thread) and tried that option and it sounded awful!  I am currently using (have been using the whole time) a XLR mic (Audio-Technica Pro8) that I was using with my Boss setup and it is way better than any of the other smaller mics I tried.  I will probably create a new post that compares what I was using with my Boss system and the new MultiStomp at some point...  It's not technically a night and day difference, but this Zoom setup is definitely WAY better, IMO...

Here's the new video.  Settings below.

    Settings:

    ZNR: 15, IN, 100

    DynamicDrive: 68, 60, 62, Stack

    PitchSHFT: -3, 10, 88, 7, 110

    GraphicEQ: 8, 2, 2, 5, 7, 7, 140

    Z Clean: 52, 80, 105

    Booster: 15, 88, 100

At this point, I am done playing with it for now.  I need to actually do a full suit up and try it out at a troop before I play with the settings any further...

    What mic?

I am using my old Radio Shack mic we all got many years ago. It works great.

I tried plugging an Aker mic into the exact same settings, uncontrolled feedback. Screeching.

So not only do you have to mix for your own voice, you have to mix for your mic and speaker.

In other words, the only time patches will give pretty much the same output, is when two people are using the same hardware.

  4. Okay, I messed around with icenyght’s settings and, serious, for my Zoom/Everplay setup, this is the closest I’ve been. Loud, no feedback. Sounds awesome. Bravo!

Here are my adjusted settings as I couldn’t find the DynamicDrive he had. So I put in a light overdrive in that spot.

I’ve finally found a Kylo patch I really, REALLY like. Great job iceknyght!

    ZNR: 18, in, 115

    Overdrive: 22, 50, 100

    PitchSHFT: -3,10,100

    GraphicEQ, 8,-2,4,8,8,8,150

    ZClean: 60,72,118

    Booster: 15,58,100

For extra volume, you can always adjust each patch louder. But too much won’t sound great. Hook it up and get it as loud as you feel you want to without feedback.

I hope to do a full suitup/voice test on Friday and hope to put up a video using this patch.

I’ll put up a video soon. Excited. :)

I didn't post the settings, since I was not 100% done.  I am still tweaking the sound to get it better...  I have since made a newer version that I think is better (it has a deeper sound)!  I need to do a new video of that one anyway (and yes, the sound was definitely bouncing off the walls!)

    These are my V1 settings:

    ZNR: 16, IN, 100

    DynamicDrive: 22, 50, 42, Stack

    PitchSHFT: -2, 10, 100, 7, 145

    GraphicEQ: 8, -2, 4, 8, 8, 8, 140

    Z Clean: 60, 72, 118

    Booster: 15, 58, 100

It's really hard to use other people's settings, since everyone's voices are different.  But it's definitely a good place to start...

Also, I don’t seem to have dynamicDrive on mine. MS-50.

    Darn.

    I’ll give that a shot.

    It’s wonderful that the Zoom

has so many spots to save patches. Input the patch, test it out, tweak it. Then use it or not. Compare directly with other patches.

Those settings are right to left with the ZNR first? Thanks.

I just got the Stomp myself (been using the Boss system for the last few years) and am really digging it.  With the Boss, I could get my voice low, but clarity was always an issue and while there are quite a few effects, I still couldn't dial it in perfectly.

With the Stomp, there are TONS of options and even more to download!  And after starting with the settings above, I liked how it sounded better than my Boss pretty quickly.  I tweaked them for me, and liked it even better.  Then I made a V2 and am really digging it even more.  I am still tweaking things a bit (and I made this quick video in my hallway, so there is some echo-y-ness to it that's not there in real life), but I really like how this is right now:

I'm excited to play with this some more.  And for those interested in my setup, here's what I use:

Post the settings for the patch. It’s how we all get better!

I like the sound in the video, but try recording in a little bigger space. I think the sound was bouncing off the walls a little as it looks pretty enclosed there.

  8. Okay, here is Fett's Kylo patch.  I am going to make it better.  And way louder.

Here is his patch according to his YouTube videos:

ZNR:14,IN,25 (The 25 is WAY too quiet IMO)

    GraphicEQ: 5,5,5,3,3,3,136 (150 is louder)

PitchSHFT: -2,5,100,7,150 (The problem with the 5 is that 1/2 your actual voice comes through)

    Booster: 20,80,150

    Z Clean: 60,50,150

I took those settings and made a patch I think is better.  Give this a try...

    ZNR: 21,IN,150

    GraphicEQ:5,5,5,3,3,3,150

PitchSHFT: -3,10,100,7,150 (Fine tune the -3 and the 7 to your voice)

    Booster: 86,80,150

    Z Clean: 60,50,150

    CentaGold: 2,50,100

The CentaGold on the end gives it just that little bit of scratchyness Kylo has with his helmet on. Also, this patch is so loud I don't need to run my speaker on 100.

  9. Here is what I am using for Kylo right now, 4/22/22.

I am using the Stomp MS-50G running to a flat Phillips Everplay.

    OPTCOMP: 7,32,150

PitchSHFT: -3,10,100,10,150 (Move the voice higher or lower to your liking.

    ZNR: 23,IN,150

    StereoCho: 81,32,53,9,150

    GraphicEQ: -12,-4,2,4,-3,4,150

    LOFI Reverb: 22,33,31,short,off,on

    Give that a try.

EDIT:  I ran a bunch of Vader lines with the above and it sounds pretty good for that.  Moreso than Kylo I think.  :)

Anyone know about this HelicalHypercom voicechanger?  I haven't been able to dig up much info on it; but that price is right for sure!

I just bought one a day ago, will report back with my findings...

Did you get this in yet? I know the Etsy store says sold out now.

    How much was it?

    Thanks.

Hi, i have ZOOM MS-70CDR (blue) and my problem is, i dont have "Booster" filter on my list. I have ZNR, Graphic EQ, PitchSHFT, but Booster dont. Is it called differently in this version, or it is possible to use another one instead?

Did you download the latest firmware? Once you have the installer added to your computer, it opens up more patches you can add to your zoom. Booster might be in there and need to be added to the zoom through the software.

Thanks JSmails!! I can always count on you for answers!! I will definitely check it out!!!

I had a few minutes to mess with Fett’s Kylo. I’ve tweaked it to be a little louder and lower my voice a bit. Just play around with Shift and Tone in the PitchSHFT to get the sound you really like.

This is a really close patch. I may have to download some more kylo lines so that I can mimic them better. And memorize them.

The last number in most of the patches can be messed around with for loudness. On Fett’s, for some reason, he sets the volume on the ZNR to 25 which is way too quiet and you’ll really have to amplify it. I’ve set mine to 100.

Give this a try. Right to left on the zoom

    BOOSTER: 28, 80, 150

    PitchSHFT: -3, 5, 100, 7, 150

    GraphicEQ: 5, 5, 5, 3, 3, 3, 130

    ZNR: 19, EfxIn, 100

Dial in the sound from there.

  13. From Fett:

Here's what I have currently, although I change a few of the levels depending on the event, for more crowded a smaller areas I change the ZNR to help with picking up outside voices and feedback but you sacrifice volume so it's more for "intimate" conversations. It also varies by speaker, I have an old Aker 1506 that is quieter but gives less feedback than the speaker I use now so I can move the levels up on it - I might have to give in and go for a 1505, my old one from Vader stopped working and my other speakers were too big so I picked up the Maono 10W, it works good enough but I do wish it was louder.  Anyway, here you go:

ZNR (this is where I tweak to minimize feedback)

    - THRSH: 14 (but you can test to find sweet spot)

    - EfxIn

    - Level: 25 (also test to find sweet spot)

    Graphic EQ: 5,5,5,3,3,3,130

    PitchSHFT: -2,5,100,7,150

    Booster: 20,80,150
