  1. What I learned from using all three options: MiCom, Zoom and Boss is, it's really your preference.

For me, MiCom takes away some uniqueness of interaction. However your voice is consistently on point and frees you to focus on the physical aspects of being in character. Ask anyone who's gone to Galaxy's Edge, interactions with Kylo are special even if not unique.

I'm down with the Boss right now, even though Zoom has better features. It fits my harness easier and requires less work to protect while out. But I'm still working on improving my Zoom set up for future use.

The most popular sound glove option is The MiCom Sound Rig. You can't really sell copyrighted sound files without permission so the MiCom owner recorded voice lines then added Kylo's sound effects. End result outperforms what the actors at Galaxy's Edge use. With some practice you can simulate conversations.

Price point is around $300. If this will be your main voice setup, it's totally worth it. They sell in runs, so you'll have to get on a waiting list.

This was the system I was looking at

Thanks for the link. Posted a few vids at bottom for reference. Voice samples for this rig were pulled from Battlefront 2 (vid below as well) so he's had to make some creative choices with limited options. $100 USD is not a bad price point if the build quality is good. I don't have any experience with this vendor or product.  Maybe someone here or the The Knights of Ren Facebook group has.

  4. We have a number of options that vary in complexity and cost. These are the most popular options:

The only thing you'll have ready and dialed in for this weekend is a Phone App with speaker and mic purchased from Amazon or retail. I'd suggest going silent mode unless you have money and time to burn.

    Occanum,

Stupid question, nice chest rig, but you're wearing the mesh in front?  And for the TFA do you need 2 speakers?

Yes, mesh in front. I'm assuming 2 for TFA due to surcoat and hood layers. Haven't tested yet. Will post my results in a few weeks.

  6. I'm trying a variety of voice options with my TFA / SKB WIP. This post will cover my Boss VE-5 set up.

    Components

    Direct Level 100

    Delay OFF
    Reverb OFF

  7. Current settings (v1) based off the first iteration in this post

    Comp 4 8 78 Fast
    Booster    28 80 150
    Pitch Shift  -3 6 100 7 150
    GraphicEQ  5 5 5 3 3 5 130
    ZNR 19 EfxIn 100

Would love to simply copy/paste another person settings but multiple factors make each set up unique. In order to tweak v1, I have to learn what the Zoom effect types and parameters did. Found the manual https://zoomcorp.com/media/documents/E_MS-50G_FX-list_v3.pdf

Compression is used in music to reduce the dynamic range of signals with loud and quiet elements so that both can be heard clearly.

    3jZl3oP.png

Gain is how loud an input signal is before it enters the amplifier. The higher the gain, the louder the signal. For example, if a microphone has low sensitivity, you will need to turn up the gain so that the amplifier can make the sound louder.

Pitch refers to the frequency of the note. Changing pitch will make notes sound higher or lower.

An equalizer will adjust audio output so that certain frequencies are emphasized over others

  8. Of all the testing I did this Halloween, my voice changer rig was the least successful. Purchased the MVRK Chest Pack to securely hold one or two speakers beneath the surcoat in front, and MiCom or Zoom in the back pouch. MiCom fits perfectly but the Zoom was a precarious fit.

    Chest Pack as is

To securely hold the Zoom I got the VIIDOO Tactical Molle Pouch. Which does the trick but only when mounted towards my back.

I was apprehensive about how much the condenser protruded upwards. Hindsight, should have reversed the Zoom's vertical direction. But that's not what caused it to fail; Surcoat did a great job of keeping that mess securely in place. VIIDOO Pouch is a snug fit resulting in button mash. To remedy that I asked a friend to print me a cover https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4925381

Will update after my next round of testing.

How’s the sensitivity? The cheap-o one I have now is just a touch too sensitive for my liking. Thanks man. I appreciate it.

It can pickup my breathing at times. I attribute this to two things. I'm not yet comfortable with being uncomfortable in the costume. That can cause my breathing to be erratic at times. Also, my helmet is cramped, causing the mic to rest relatively close to my mouth. Some adjusting usually resolves the problem.

How do you like the Shure WH20 QTR? It’s been on my B&H list for months. The reviews seem reassuring.

Really pleased. Speaker is only a few inches away from the mic and no feedback or interference. Voice is crystal clear before Zoom Kylo's it all up.

I know this sounds dumb.  But what does the Volbox do to add to this?

I've ordered a bunch of things, but no point in trying to figure out how to set all this up until it gets here.

Easy adjustment of volume while trooping.@JSmailscurious how and where you mount the VolBox. Do you have any pix to share? Thanks!
