Palpatine EPIII (Red Senate Robe) Standards
I. The costume must have:
Under robe: Red silk/linen blend or equivalent. The cut should be simple and non-bulky, with a mandarin style collar. The sleeves are narrow at the cuffs.
Robe: Red wool or similar fabric with an embossed finish or distinctive large weave giving the same appearance. The sleeves are large and hanging, seamed at the ends with a small wrist opening edged with red leather piping of the same color and material as the stripes on the cowl. The outer robe opens in the front and is floor length. Red satin piping may be substituted for the leather.
Front placket: Dark red silk velvet or similar fabric. Covers the central part of the chest and extends from the neck to below the knees. A appliqued leather and satin stitched design repeats five times down the center of the placket. The first of these motifs is placed immediately below where the cowl sits; the last is at the bottom, within the circular end of the placket. Each motif increases slightly in size, with the smallest at the top and largest at the bottom. The placket is attached to a collar and its back is lined. The seam between the lining and velvet is edged with red leather piping (red satin piping is an acceptable substitute).
Cowl/short cloak: Made from the same material as the placket. It has a mandarin style collar with an opening to the side which is not visible from the front. There is no front seam on the collar. The hood is large and drapes over the head without being bulky or falling below the bottom of the yoke/cloak in the back. A strip of narrow (less then 1/2" wide) red leather (red satin ribbon is an acceptable substitute) runs along the front of the hood, ~ 1/2" back from the edge. The hood is not lined but has a 1 1/2" hem. The yoke/cloak is narrow at the center, becoming wider as it goes over the shoulders. At the shoulders it reaches approximately halfway down to the elbow and curves even lower to the center of the back. Vertical strips (less than 1/2" wide) of the red leather (or satin ribbon) run vertically around the yoke/cloak, starting roughly at what would be above the front seam for the outer robe, and going across the back to the opposite shoulder spaced at roughly 6" intervals. The yoke/cloak is lined with the same red velvet and is stiff in appearance.
Boots/shoes: Burgundy loafers or boots in a suede or a look-alike material.
Prosthetics: Prosthetics should be multi- or single-part appliances made from silicone, gel, foam, or slush latex. Halloween or Rubies Masks and mask parts cut up to form prosthetics will not be accepted. The prosthetic appliance(s) should allow freedom of facial expression, and be colored and well-blended. Hands must be made up to match skin tone of prosthetics. Make up should be natural pale flesh color and not gray. Nails can be made up to reflect charring at edges of fingernails.
Contact lenses: Lenses should be yellow to light orange tinted with red or black fringes around the circumference of the lens. This lens requirement may be waived at the discretion of the LMO or GML if the person is unable to wear contacts for health reasons.
II A costume may have
Lightsaber: MR Sidious 1:1 replica, or equivalent machined aluminum or resin-cast saber. Luxeon or Hyperdyne style equivalent looking sabers are also acceptable.
NOTE: The commercially available Rubies version of this costume is NOT acceptable as it does not meet the standards for accuracy.
